Carrefour, under the Majid Al Futtaim umbrella, has announced its sponsorship of the upcoming Kyambogo Ultra Challenge Run, reinforcing its commitment to promoting health and wellness within the Ugandan community. The run, which is Uganda’s only ultra-challenge marathon, is set to take place on May 4, 2024, at the Kyambogo University Cricket Oval.
The sponsorship amount of UGX 7 million signifies Carrefour’s dedication to fostering a healthy lifestyle among Ugandans. This initiative aligns with the retailer’s broader mission of supporting community well-being through impactful engagements.
The Kyambogo Ultra Challenge Run, now in its 14th edition, has been a staple event since its inception in 2010. It serves as a significant fitness benchmark for participants from various running clubs in Kampala and beyond, often preparing runners for continental marathons.
Christophe Orcet, Regional Director – East Africa at Majid Al Futtaim Retail, emphasized the company’s dedication to community impact: “We are dedicated to making a positive impact in the communities in which we operate, and the sponsorship of the Kyambogo Ultra Challenge Run reflects this. We remain committed to collaborating with our partners to support initiatives that promote health and well-being, while leveraging the power of sport to bring people together.”
Julius Nkuraija, CEO of Kyambogo Ultra Challenge Run, expressed enthusiasm about Carrefour’s involvement as a sponsor: “We are delighted to have Carrefour on board as a sponsor for the 14th Kyambogo Ultra Challenge Run. Their generous support will play a crucial role in ensuring the success of the event and further promoting health and fitness awareness in Uganda.”
Nkuraija also shared aspirations for the run’s future, hinting at integrating environmental protection causes as the event gains traction and evolves.
Carrefour’s sponsorship extends beyond this event, reflecting the retailer’s ongoing community engagement efforts. Initiatives like the “Round Up Your Bill” campaign encourage customers to donate towards supporting vulnerable groups in neighboring communities. Since its launch in 2021, the initiative has raised over UGX 290 million, benefiting various projects at organizations like Peculiar Childcare Support, Kireka Home for Disabled Children, Mulago School for The Deaf, Kiswa Primary School, Ntinda School for the Deaf, and The Noah’s Ark Village.
The upcoming Kyambogo Ultra Challenge Run promises to be a testament to both physical endurance and community spirit, thanks to Carrefour’s generous support and dedication to promoting healthier lifestyles across Uganda.
