MTN Uganda launches FMCG Digital Suite: A supply chain digital platform

MTN Uganda has introduced an innovative mobile-based platform called the FMCG Digital Suite, designed to streamline the supply chain process for businesses in the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) industry. This platform enables businesses to place orders, generate invoices, make payments, and collect returns in real-time, all through a mobile interface.

The FMCG Digital Suite, developed by MTN’s Technology Business and fintech division, MTN MoMo, automates product distribution and facilitates cashless payments through MTN Mobile Money. By eliminating the need for cash transactions, the platform enhances operational efficiency and provides a more secure payment method within the FMCG ecosystem.

Sylvia Mulinge, CEO of MTN Uganda, emphasized that this initiative aligns with MTN’s Ambition 2025 Strategy, which aims to build the largest and most valuable platform business in Africa and drive digital transformation across various industries. Mulinge highlighted the significance of the FMCG Digital Suite in empowering businesses, improving operational efficiency, and promoting cashless payments.

The introduction of this platform is timely, as businesses increasingly turn to digital solutions to enhance efficiency, overcome supply chain challenges, and expand their reach in the market. According to statistics from the International Trade Administration, it is projected that by 2025, there will be half a billion e-commerce users in Africa. Furthermore, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) estimates that digital commerce, driven by the expansion of mobile internet, could contribute $180 billion to the region’s GDP by 2025.

Richard Yego, Managing Director at MTN Mobile Money Uganda Ltd, emphasized that the FMCG Digital Suite will not only accelerate the adoption of digital mobile money payments but also enhance the safety of business transactions, particularly in managing returns.

Andrew Kilonzo, Managing Director of Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL), expressed the company’s commitment to embracing new technologies that drive digitization and improve operational efficiency while mitigating the risks associated with cash handling. He praised the partnership with MTN Uganda, recognizing its contribution to UBL’s journey towards digitization and delivering added value to consumers.

MTN Uganda is inviting FMCG businesses to explore the FMCG Digital Suite and leverage the transformative power of digital solutions in their operations.
