Stanbic Bank Uganda has announced the appointment of Mumba Kalifungwa as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective March 1, 2025, pending regulatory approval.
Kalifungwa, currently the Managing Director at Absa Bank Uganda, brings nearly 30 years of experience, with 20 years in senior leadership roles in the banking sector across Botswana, Zambia, and Uganda. His expertise spans business development, risk management, strategy formulation, and finance strategy.
In a statement released on Monday, the Stanbic Board of Directors expressed confidence in Kalifungwa’s ability to lead the bank to new heights. “Given his extensive experience and recent contributions to Uganda’s financial sector, we are confident the bank will thrive under his leadership as we pursue our purpose of driving Uganda’s growth,” the board noted.
Before his current role, Kalifungwa served as Chief Financial Officer at Absa Bank Botswana and previously held the same position for Absa’s operations in Zambia.
A Chartered Accountant and seasoned organizational leader, Kalifungwa is a fellow of several professional bodies, including the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), the Botswana Institute of Chartered Accountants (BICA), and the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA). He also holds an MBA from Heriot-Watt University in Scotland and has participated in numerous senior leadership development programs.
Kalifungwa’s appointment follows the departure of Anne Juuko, who earlier this year assumed the role of Eastern African Regional Head of Global Markets for Standard Bank Group in Nairobi.
