In a strategic move to bolster its presence in East Africa, Standard Bank Group has announced the appointment of Anne Juuko, the Chief Executive of Stanbic Bank Uganda, as the Global Markets Regional Head for East Africa, effective April 1.
Kayode Solola, the Executive Head for Global Markets—Africa Regions at Standard Bank Group, extended congratulations to Juuko, emphasizing the significance of her new role overseeing seven markets, including Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, DR Congo, South Sudan, Malawi, and Zambia.
Damoni Kitabire, Stanbic Bank Uganda’s Board Chairman, lauded Juuko and her senior management team for their collaborative efforts and substantial contributions to the bank’s growth. He expressed gratitude for their achievements in delivering value to customers and shareholders.
Patrick Mweheire, the Standard Bank Group Regional Chief Executive for East Africa, welcomed Juuko to her new role, expressing confidence in her ability to lead the respective country teams to achieve revenue, profitability, and sustainability goals.
Anne Juuko’s decade-long journey with Standard Bank Group has seen her assume various leadership roles, starting as the Head of Global Markets for Stanbic Bank Uganda and progressing to roles such as Head of Corporate and Investment Banking Namibia. In 2020, she made history as the first female Chief Executive of Uganda’s largest commercial lender.
During her tenure as CEO, Juuko navigated the bank through challenging times, including the global COVID-19 pandemic, while maintaining profitability. Under her leadership, Stanbic Bank reported a substantial increase in profit after tax in 2022. Juuko also spearheaded impactful initiatives like SACCO financing and capacity building and Stanbic4Her, supporting smallholder farmer groups and women entrepreneurs and contributing to Uganda’s economic growth.
Beyond her banking accomplishments, Juuko has been a dedicated advocate for maternal and neonatal health and played a crucial role in expanding digital financial services through the FlexiPay platform.
As Anne Juuko transitions to her regional role, her appointment signifies a promising step for Standard Bank Group’s ambitions in East Africa. The move reflects the organization’s commitment to leadership excellence and regional growth, capturing the attention of the financial community.
